Your local CAB needs you!
If you enjoy working with people and want to give something back to your local community, why not add volunteering at your local Citizens Advice Bureau to your list of New Year resolutions?
All Manukau Citizens Advice Bureaux are seeking volunteers so they can continue to provide support and advice to thousands of Manukau residents who rely on this free service every year.
Last year, Manukau Citizens Advice Bureaux helped with 64, 459 enquiries ranging from practical neighbourhood information to advice about New Zealand laws. Volunteers are fully trained and receive ongoing support, to ensure they know how to access the most up-to-date information and resources available.
Citizens Advice hosts several training courses throughout the year, the first of 2006 starts on 7th February.
As well as helping others, CAB volunteers benefit in a range of ways. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and develop new skills, plus it looks great on your CV.
Ray McNeil, volunteer at Papatoetoe CAB for over 14 years says:
“I’ve enjoyed a good life in New Zealand and after retiring I wanted to give something back by helping other people. Work at the CAB is challenging - we have a responsibility to make sure we get it right - but very satisfying. I’m also learning all the time – you never stop.”
If you would like to find out more about volunteering for the Citizens Advice Bureau, pop in to your local Citizens Advice Bureau or call Manukau City Council on 262 8901.
