Help at hand to keep your home snug, warm and healthy this winter
35 homes in Manukau will be made warmer and dryer this winter thanks to the joint efforts of Manukau City Council, Tamaki Ki Raro Trust and ProCare Network Manukau.
The 2006 Manukau Housing Insulation Project has funding available to fit free insulation to 35 Manukau houses and is inviting low income individuals or families to make the most of this opportunity.
To be eligible applicants should own their own homes, be in the low income bracket, live in Manukau City and have health concerns that would benefit from insulation.
Health and Wellbeing Planner for Manukau City Council Sue Zimmerman says:
“Research shows that people who live in insulated and dry homes have better health and less time off work and school than those in colder, uninsulated damp houses.
“If you think you or your family could benefit from this project, we encourage you to complete an application form” says Ms Zimmerman.
A clinical trial involving 1400 homes conducted by the Wellington School of Medicine confirmed that insulation had clear health benefits including reduced use of health care services for those suffering from respiratory, cardiac and mental illness.
Application forms are available from Manukau City Council Call Centre, phone 262 5104 or Council’s website www.manukau.govt.nz and must be returned to Tamaki Ki Raro Trust, PO Box 59 177 by Friday 12 May.
Over the past 5 years, 700 houses benefiting 2800 Manukau residents have been insulated through the Manukau Housing Insulation Project.
