More Winners At Community Awards

This year four community organisations were also recognised at the Community Awards for Excellence ceremony. Although not winners of the main awards they were deemed by the judges as worthy of receiving recognition for their contribution to the North Shore communtiy. Three groups received a special Mayoral Award. Each organisation received monetary reward and a framed Award presented by His Worship the Mayor.

Parent Port Inc - for their positive contribution to helping families in need through the work of their home care workers who have provided practical assistance to over 240 North Shore families under stress.

Safer Families Violence Prevention Network were recognised for their excellent work in raising awareness of family violence issues and in developing a coordinated response with all agencies involved.

St Anne’s Club for the Blind received recognition for the dedication of their loyal volunteers who have provided support to elderly sight impaired and blind residents on the North Shore for over 38 years. St Annes meet weekly to provide activities, support and friendship at their centre in the Mary Thomas Centre in Takapuna.

Each year a COMMUNITY SPIRIT AWARD is presented at the Award ceremony by North Shore Community and Social Services who organise the event. This year the Rainbow Club, a weekly friendship and support group for isolated or lonely Korean elderly was the recipient. The group is run entirely by volunteers who offer healthy living education and activities to over 100 Korean elderly.

The Presentation took place at the Channel View Lounge in Takapuna on Thursday 29 June.
