Last Thursday, 24th August, the City of Manukau Education Trust (COMET) placed 70 Business Leaders/Managers as Principals for a Day in 70 Primary and Secondary Schools in Manukau City.
The Principals welcomed the opportunity to show case their schools and to share with business, community and media leaders their success stories particularly within Maori and Pacific Island communities of Manukau. The event is now in its fifth year of developing leadership and relationships between schools and the wider business community. High profile CEOs from the Manukau and wider Auckland communities participated in the event which ended with a civic function hosted by Sir Barry Curtis, Mayor of Manukau City.
Brent Jenkin Principal from Wakaaranga said “Principal for a Day, with Barry Brown from Fraser Thomas Ltd was an excellent opportunity to ‘showcase ‘our school and how we work. Barry has a real interest in schools and was able to focus in on areas of relevance. He shared his fundraising expertise from charitable trusts, invaluable.”
Whereas PFAD (Principal for a Day) Mike Puru from The EDGE (Radio station) was placed at De La Salle College and commented that the highlight was “Probably the respect shown from students. Meeting and witnessing teachers at work, a fantastic day that opened my eyes!”
