Top potters' works on display
Craft Potters Media Release
Works from some of New Zealand's leading potters will be on display in this year's Nelson Craft Potters' exhibition in October.
The not for profit group has been running for 30 years and has built up a substantial permanent collection. Craft Potters member, Rita Edgar says that the exhibition is a chance to show off some of the clubs unique works.
"We are proud to own works from such high calibre potters as Len Castle, Mirek Smisek, Peter Lange, Jack Laird, Neil Grant, Joe Finch, Lawrence Ewing and many more," she said. "All these potters have been associated with Craft Potters either as guest exhibitors or have held workshops there over the years."
Well-known local potters will also have pieces on display.
But the exhibition isn't just showing the work of the well- known: "We'll also have a selection of work on display from our Wednesday and Saturday morning classes to show what our potters make when they first begin and the standard they can eventually reach."
Not all the pieces have been thrown on a wheel, and the exhibition shows the true art of pottery with many of the pieces hand built using a range of techniques such as coiling, mould, slab and slip cast.
The annual South Street Gallery Awards will also be announced and displayed during the month long exhibition. The awards recognize the different categories of work and the various techniques and glazes studied to achieve them.
The Craft Potters exhibition commences 1 October at the club premises in Ranzau Road West, Hope and runs for one month.
