Junior mountain biking camp at Coronet Peak

Gutsy downhill mountain biker Scarlett Hagen will host a two-day mountain biking training camp at Coronet Peak next week.

The former World Junior Downhill Mountain Bike champion will lead a programme targeting 13-16 year old intermediate to advanced level mountain bikers.

The training camp will be held on Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th January 2007.

Scarlett aims to analyse riders and provide personal feedback and skill development while teaching them different techniques to use when racing.

Southern Alpine Recreation sales & marketing manager David Ovendale says Scarlett has plenty of experience and is known for her outstanding performances that saw her take out the Silver medal at World Junior Downhill Mountain Bike Championships in 2003, Gold in 2004 and Silver in 2005.

Yesterday (Sunday 7 January) Scarlett beat former and current national women’s champions Vanessa Quinn and Jennifer Makgill in the first round of the National Downhill Series.

“Scarlett’s passion for downhill mountain biking and her reputation within the industry makes this ‘a must’ for up and coming riders wanting to take their skills to a new level,” he said.

Scarlett says the Coronet Peak programme is designed to accelerate development and fast track improvement.

“I’m looking forward to sharing my passion, as well as my hard-earned training tips and inspiring riders to progress and drive for success.”

The training camp will run from 11am until 4pm each day and riders can freeride until 7pm after their session. Training will cost $75 per day plus $20 lift pass for non-season pass holders. Participants must have their own downhill bikes and safety equipment.
