Transpower work over state highways
Transit advises motorists of Transpower work over state highways
Transit New Zealand is advising motorists that scaffolding structures and netting will be placed across two state highways in February and March to allow Transpower to conduct maintenance work to their power lines.
Transit’s Wellington Regional Highways Superintendent Reuben Pokiha says the work will affect SH1 at the Tawa Interchange and State Highway 58 at the Haywards Substation for approximately four weeks and three weeks respectively. The contractors are replacing conductors on the transmission lines.
“This is normal maintenance that Transpower is doing to the lines, however, we wanted to let motorists know there will be large scaffolding structures with netting draped across the state highways in those two areas,” Mr Pokiha says.
To ensure safety of the traffic and public passing under the line, scaffolding structures will be erected with steel wire ropes and netting strung across the highway to create a fully protective structure.
Mr Pokiha says similar work has been done before, however, because the scaffolding and netting structure has quite a visual impact, Transit wanted to alert motorists of the work.
Construction of the protective structures has already begun although additional structures being put up will become more visible from the highway shortly.
Mr Pokiha says Transit advises motorists not to be alarmed of the structures and drive as normal so as not to impede traffic flow.
