Auckland: SPCA’s Million Paws Walk

15 March 2007

Dogs, Humans And Others Invited To SPCA’s Million Paws Walk

The SPCA wants dogs from across the Auckland region to bring their favourite people along with them for New Zealand’s first ever ‘Million Paws Walk’ on Sunday 18th March.

The event is aimed both at celebrating the special bond between dogs and their human families and at raising funds for the SPCA’s work on behalf of animals.

In addition to the walk itself, there will be entertainments and attractions galore, including bouncy castles, food and drink stalls, animal obedience classes and a display of top-level canine intelligence from the dogs of New Zealand Customs.

Auckland is one of five venues around New Zealand where the Million Paws Walk will be happening. The walk will be one-to-five kilometres in length and is to start at Monte Cecilia Park, Delargey Avenue, Hillsborough at 11 am. The event as a whole will last from 10.00am to 3.00 pm.

“As this will be the first time an event of this type has been held in New Zealand, we’re not expecting literally a million paws to be present. But, nevertheless, we’re expecting plenty of wagging tails.

“We’re also expecting everyone to enjoy themselves thoroughly. After all, what better way can there be to spend a few hours at the weekend than in the company of other animals and animal lovers,” says Auckland SPCA Events Co-ordinator, Craig Montgomery

Pets other than dogs will be welcome on the Auckland Million Paws Walk, provided that, like the dogs, they are firmly and appropriately attached to humans.
