Slacker indie-rockers Pavement forged the path for guitar bands the world over by giving major record labels the middle finger salute and making it big on the back of their indie cred. Their influence is felt everywhere in the rock underground, cutting through the lo-fi distortion of early nineties grunge with Stephen Malkmus's fine-crafted poetry and melodies forming 1992's seminal Slanted and Enchanted, and the rest – as they say – is history.
