Positive Movers In Our Communities
Positive Movers In Our Communities
The challenge to our communities to stand up against drugs and violence is being responded to in many ways, personally in our homes , and within the wider community. I wish to acknowledge a great example of people standing up for our youth and our community.
A number of Church Ministers and members, supported by local Kaumatua, in Clendon are proposing an innovative initiative called “Beacon”. The proposal is to set up a refuge for short term care of kids , unable for a number of reasons to go home. They have also commenced a nightly patrol around the Town Centre.
They have together decided to take a stand. I attended, with many others, their “Walk the Talk” meeting to inform the community of the plans and seek support. All present pledged support to make this project happen.
Their passion and commitment is inspirational, and an example of the fact that there are many ways that we can rise to these present challenges. My hope is that “Beacon” is not only a light shining for our young people, lost from their families, but provides light for us all to follow.
