Successful rescue of sick crew man
The rescue of an ill crew member from a vessel off the Otago coast has been successfully completed reports the Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ).
Around mid-morning today RCCNZ assumed control of the rescue mission and immediately tasked a helicopter to the commercial vessel Ayson two miles out from Porpoise Bay.
A crewman on the fishing vessel was reported to be suffering severe stomach pains and swelling to the right side of the abdomen and urgent medical advice was sought which indicated an immediate evacuation to hospital was required..
The Lion Foundation Rescue helicopter from Dunedin with a Paramedic on board was tasked and flew to the area, the Paramedic was winched on to the vessel and both he and the ill crewman were subsequently winched off,
The sick man was picked up at 1115hrs and arrived at Dunedin hospital about noon today.
