Exhibition with a unique point of view
Running from 1 May until the end of June, Auckland City Libraries presents an exhibition of photographs that offers a record of New Zealand as it was almost a century ago.
Point of View: Scenic New Zealand by FG Radcliffe presents black and white photographs of small rural towns and large cities, street scenes, gardens, buildings and beaches from the early part of the 20th century. These photographs are from a collection of over 2000 glass plate negatives showing scenic views of New Zealand from Northland to Stewart Island taken by photographer Frederick George Radcliffe.
Radcliffe was well regarded as a scenic photographer and spent 20 years of his life touring the country taking photographs.
The images in this exhibition are from a wider collection at Auckland City Libraries of over a quarter of a million photographs dating from 1848, many of which can be seen via the Heritage Images Online database at www.aucklandcitylibraries.com
This exhibition is being held in conjunction with the Auckland Festival of Photography.
