Funding approved
to complete refurbishment of Star of the Sea
Manukau City Council's Community Development Committee has approved $180,000 to complete the refurbishment of the Star of the Sea building in Howick.
This decision will fund the final stages of the project including floors, walls and light fittings, as well as specific requirements identified to have the facility tenanted, for example air conditioning.
Stage one of the project, which was completed earlier this year, involved major structural work to ensure the building met current earthquake regulations.
Once work is completed, council will call for expressions of interest for future use of Star of the Sea. Concepts under consideration include arts, cultural and community space, a mix of commercial (café) and non commercial use.
Council will work with the Howick Community Board to select a suitable tenant.
