Turn your shopping into learning

New Zealand’s popular community education campaign has its biggest year in 2007

The Westfield Shop for Your School™ campaign returns on Monday May 21 with its best-ever prize pool – more than $700,000 worth of educational technology and equipment for schools nationwide.

This community initiative converts the spend of shoppers in Westfield shopping centres into educational supplies for schools across the country.

Shop For Your School™ is once again supported by Apple and Canon but this year also features two new sponsors – adidas and Scholastic. The new sponsors are providing much needed sports equipment as well as vouchers for books and educational resources.

In the five years of the campaign, shoppers at Westfield simply by doing their everyday shopping have helped thousands of primary and intermediate students receive more than $3 million of educational resources and associated prizes.

“This campaign continues to involve communities in helping their local schools simply by going about their everyday shopping,” says Westfield New Zealand National Marketing and Communications Manager, Linda Trainer.

“Everyday purchases such as groceries can contribute to the school tally giving shoppers a simple way to assist their local schools.”

In 2006 more than 280 schools, nearly 90,000 students and 21,000 shoppers took part across New Zealand in the Shop For Your School campaign.

This year’s campaign is the biggest ever year with a boosted prize pool of more than $700,000. For the second time the prize allocation will be split into two categories – schools with up to 300 full time students and those with 301 or more.

Linda Trainer says the campaign is popular with both schools and shoppers.

“We have been delighted to see what difference Shop for Your School has made to schools across the country. The fantastic response we have had from our customers also shows how attractive the campaign is for communities. We urge as many people as possible to get involved to ensure schools in their area get the opportunity to share in the significant prize pool.”

Schools, friends and family can register at the Shop for Your School booths at any of the participating ten Westfield Shopping Centres in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, and Christchurch.

People can also donate points to a school in another city if that school is registered for the campaign.

Schools and shoppers can see how they’re doing by visiting the Westfield website at www.westfield.com/sfysnz
