Park for free in the CBD
AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL
MEDIA RELEASE
1 June 2007
Park for free in the CBD
Auckland City Council and Heart of the City would like to thank businesses, retailers and shoppers for their patience and cooperation while work continues along Queen Street and in Vulcan Lane as part of the CBD streets and open spaces upgrade.
The two organisations are offering a joint weekend parking promotion to make it easier for people to shop in the CBD.
Throughout the month of June, shoppers who spend $5 or more in the city on any Saturday or Sunday get two hours free parking at ParkRight Victoria Street. All you need to do is present your shopping receipt to the ParkRight cashier before you leave the parking building.
The offer also extends to the Queens Birthday public holiday on Monday, 4 June 2007.
Mayor Dick Hubbard says the council appreciates the support that businesses in the city centre have shown throughout streetscape upgrades.
“We’re working with Heart of the City to encourage people to experience what the city has to offer despite the work. The message we want to convey is that Queen Street shops are well and truly open for business and the June parking promotion is one way we can encourage people to come and see the exciting progress we’ve made so far,” he says.
The majority of retailers have expressed support for the parking promotion and will display promotional material in their shops to remind their customers about the offer.
