Auckland City Libraries explores the heart of Hokianga
Auckland City Libraries presents a free exhibition at the Central City Library (16 July to 29 September) that highlights and celebrates the history, people and the place that is Hokianga.
Hokianga will be the largest exhibition ever shown at Auckland City Libraries, featuring over 150 taonga or Māori treasures borrowed from private families and the libraries' heritage collections.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of public events and activities for all ages. Highlights include a Hokianga Rocks competition for 5 to 18 year olds, a music performance by Te Ara To and a lecture series.
The public are also invited to add comments and stories to the Hokianga exhibition blog at www.aclhokiangarocks.blogspot.com , which can be accessed from the libraries’ website.
Hokianga is an insightful exhibition that aims to highlight the significant interrelationship of the whakapau taniwha (environment), whakapau ariki (authority) and tangata (people) of Hokianga Harbour.
