“Two Hundred Testicles” Wanted In Manukau
Manukau Veterinary Group is planning to collect 200 testicles from local residents next Tuesday (August 21st).
As part of the nationwide DeSex in the City campaign, the South Auckland-based clinics are offering to neuter up to 100 cats free of charge during that day.
Director of Manukau Veterinary Group, Dr Steve Merchant, says vets at the Groups’ three clinics will be aiming to remove 200 testicles between them.
“We’ve
dubbed it ‘testicle Tuesday’ and we’ll be ready to
perform up to 100 free operations for those who bring in
their cat.”
Dr Merchant says the free neutering is
aimed at people who mightn’t otherwise pay for this
procedure for their pet – as well as people who are
looking after a stray cat.
There are many benefits of de-sexing. As well as reducing the numbers of unwanted kittens, it also has health and behavioural benefits for the cat themselves.
The annual DeSex in the City campaign is run by the Auckland SPCA during August, with participating vets throughout the city offering discounted rates.
For the rest of August, they will be offering reduced rates on both male and female cat and dog desexing.
Bookings are essential for the free neutering on August 21st, and the discounted rates through August. Manukau Veterinary Group clinics include:
