Emergency Mission To Kapiti Island
Emergency Mission To Kapiti Island
The Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter has just returned from a mission to Kapiti Island.
The helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard was called to the Island around 1230 this morning to rescue a 52 year old man, who lives on the island, and was suffering from a heart attack.
The alarm was raised by a call to 111 from the man's daughter.
"Winds of up to 75 kph made the landing at Kapiti a bit challenging" says Mike Hall, Westpac Rescue Helicopter pilot. "Luckily for the man the conditions were OK for the helicopter to respond because a rescue by boat would have been extremely difficult in those conditions".
The man, and his daughter, were transported to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where he is currently being treated and assessed.
