Bang Bubble Fizz, Not Snap Crackle Pop

Taranaki Civil Defence Emergency Management Group media release

28 August 2007

Bang Bubble Fizz, Not Snap Crackle Pop

Will it bang, bubble or fizz? The question relates to volcanic eruptions of Mount Taranaki and will be addressed at a major public seminar in New Plymouth on 20 September.

The evening seminar at the New Plymouth District Council chambers will follow on from a day of more technical presentations aimed at specialised audiences, all organised by and for the Egmont Volcanic Advisory Group of the Taranaki Civil Defence Emergency Management Group.

Among those giving presentations will be staff from the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences, or GNS, students and staff from Auckland University and Massey University, the Earthquake Commission and the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management.

Besides the likely type of eruption of Mount Taranaki, other topics for the public seminar in the evening will include “What the mountain is up to: How we know, how you can keep in touch, how we will tell you, what you should do.”

Sessions earlier in the day will be for scientists in the advisory group, and for Civil Defence stakeholders in Taranaki. Both of these sessions will be at the Taranaki Emergency Management Office on Marsland Hill, New Plymouth.

The public seminar at the NPDC chambers will begin at 7.30pm. Entry is free and supper will be provided.
