Strong to run in Lambton Ward
Callum Strong announced today that he is running for the Wellington City Council in the Lambton Ward.
The 28 year old is a born and bred Wellingtonian who advocates sound urban planning, environmental sustainability, and an efficient public transport network.
"If elected to Council I
want to focus on:
- open and transparent Council
processes,
- greater debate on rating issues,
- innovative solutions to the problems with storm-water and
sewage infrastructure,
- architecture that works in
harmony with nature and the City's character,
-
upgrading public transport, more cycle lanes, improving
traffic flow,
- and rejuvenating the city's recycling
programme" said Mr Strong.
Mr Strong is on the board of the Wellington Civic Trust, an organisation that promotes civic dialogue and world-class urban design.
He has worked at Wellington City Council Archives, gaining valuable knowledge of the heritage of Wellington. This inside experience has built upon his understanding of the issues facing the city and broadened his knowledge of council politics. “I believe I’m in a position to act as a bridge between the aspirations of Wellington citizens and the mechanisms of Council instigated change.”
He has five years experience presenting plans, policies and concepts to local, regional and central government which reflect his aspirations for the future of the city. “I've learnt a lot about the relationship between public and private interests. In any development I will be looking to create win-win situations for rate payers, the economy and the environment.”
Callum will bring youth, vitality and vision to the council chambers. "If you want an independent, innovative and accessible councillor to lead Wellington into the future, then use your vote wisely."
