Please Donate to the Food Bank
The empty shelves of Downtown Community Ministry’s busy food bank are showing the affects of incredibly high demand over the last two months.
Coordinator Graham Anderson says, “at least fifty more clients accessed the food bank in August than the month before and current demand looks to continue that way”.
He attributes the increased demand to increased power and food costs over winter.
“Lots of clients have come in concerned about their power bills. Winter price increases have really influenced the amount of money people have available to spend on food.”
The rise in food prices, particularly dairy products, looks set to impact on DCM’s food bank budget as well.
Graham notes the last 25kg bag of milk powder he purchased for the food bank cost 25% more than the one he bought a month ago. This is an increase of $50 for a basic item the food bank seeks to provide.
Please support the food bank by donating essential supplies such as packaged meat, pasta meals or tinned fish, starting your own food drive in your neighbourhood, workplace, church or club, or, make a financial donation straight to the food bank.
