Ministry signs Supreme Court construction contract
The Ministry of Justice today signed a $54.8 million contract with Mainzeal Construction for the construction and restoration of the Supreme Court complex on Lambton Quay in Wellington. The contract constitutes the main component of the total project budget of $65.1 million.
The contract, which is within budget, provides for completion of the complex including the full restoration of the historic court building on the site by late 2009.
Mainzeal has a strong track record in the construction of new buildings and, with its experience in restoring Parliament buildings, is also expert in the restoration of heritage buildings. Mainzeal also worked with the Supreme Court complex architects, Warren and Mahoney, on the project to restore Parliament.
Mainzeal have been undertaking some preparatory work on site since June this year under early establishment contracts. This early work included archaeological investigations, preparatory work in the old building and piling for the new building.
