C&R Council savagely cuts Avondale-Roskill projects

Avondale-Roskill communities will be shocked and dismayed that David Hay's Citizens and Ratepayers (C&R) grouping have broken Auckland City Council's social contract with the people of Avondale, Blockhouse Bay, Mt Roskill and Wesley by cutting a number of projects yesterday.

Councillor Glenda Fryer said "Residents of Avondale-Roskill will be upset that the Pah Homestead restoration and Monte Cecilia Park redevelopment will be deferred for three years. The community has expectations that these projects will go ahead, not stand still."

Councillor Graeme Easte said, "The people of Avondale-Roskill are further disadvantaged because the upgrades to the degraded Manukau Harbour walkways from Blockhouse Bay to Onehunga are being put off for years."

Avondale Community Board member and City Vision Council candidate Catherine Farmer concluded by saying "Residents will also be disappointed that renewals of paths in the ward's parks and reserves have been delayed and we are concerned about the safety implications of this. The completion of the cycleway around Keith Hay Park has also been put off which is a real shame."
