Preparing for Earth Hour
The Canterbury Regional Civil Defence Emergency Management Group is advising residents who are participating in Earth Hour to prepare for turning the lights out.
Canterbury Regional Civil Defence
Manager John Fisher says people need to be ready for the
event on Saturday, March 29.
“We want people participating in Earth Hour to be safe, which includes making sure they have the torches, candles and other alternate lighting ready,” said Mr. Fisher. “If you do not have alternate lighting on hand, now would be an excellent time to purchase some.”
Alternate lighting items can
include:
o Torches
o Batteries
for torches
o Candles
o
Matches or lighters for lighting candles and/or camping
lanterns
o Camping lanterns (with either
battery or fuel supply)
Mr. Fisher advises people who use
candles to take extra care as they
can present a fire
hazard.
Earth Hour will be held on
Saturday, March 29 at 8:00
p.m.
