Insite Technology offers premises for School e-Day 2008

[9 September 2008]. Christchurch, New Zealand. – Local computer assembler Insite Technology has offered its premises as a drop off point for the disposal of Canterbury schools’ unused IT equipment during the 2008 national School eDay initiative.

Developed in association with the national eDay programme, School eDay 2008 provides schools with an easy and free way to recycle unused IT equipment, while aiming to increase awareness amongst students about the dangers of inappropriate disposal of e-waste.

“We’re really proud to be involved with the 2008 National School eDay project as it promotes the safe and sustainable disposal of unused computer equipment”, says Insite Technology General Manager, Jan Paterson.

Electronic waste or e-waste is electronic equipment that is no longer in use and includes computers and computer-related equipment. E-waste is the fastest growing type of waste in the world and can seriously harm the environment when dumped in landfills.

During the two weeks from Monday 22 September to Friday 3 October, Insite Technology are offering their premises as a drop off point for the disposal of schools IT equipment, including monitors, desktop computers, servers, laptops, printers and peripheral devices.

“Our close association with schools as a provider of IT equipment throughout the country makes Insite an ideal support partner for the programme. We believe this is a fantastic opportunity for local Canterbury schools to responsibly dispose of unused computer equipment in a safe environment, and we’ve had several enquiries from schools already”, adds Jan.

All equipment collected during eDay will be sorted before being transported to accredited recycling plants within New Zealand or overseas, using internationally recognised practices to ensure the safety of workers while maximising the recovery of materials.
