Celebrating Local Author's International Success

Press Release
Fendalton Library Celebrates Local Author's International Success!

Fendalton Library is celebrating the United States publication of Helen Lowe's Children's/Young Adult novel, Thornspell, on Saturday 20 September at 11 am.

"Thornspell is wonderful Fantasy fiction, full of adventure, mystery and danger, sword fights and spells," says librarian, Erin Vail, "But Helen's story has its own magic. Breaking into the US market is very difficult and she has achieved it with her first novel—and already had favourable reviews from the prestigious Kirkus Reviews and The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books. Helen gave up her career to pursue the writing dream, which we feel—like the book's success—is worth celebrating in NZ Book Month."

Helen will talk about writing the Thornspell adventure and the process of getting published in the USA and will also read a selection of excerpts from the book, including some performance elements with participation of the local branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (Southron Gaard). Helen is happy to answer questions and there will be a formal cutting of the Thornspell cake and light refreshments served.

Thornspell will be available in Christchurch City Libraries and through local bookshops (distributed by Random House New Zealand).

Fendalton Library is located on the corner of Clyde and Jeffreys Roads. The event is free.
