Wine Celebration moves to summer

For Immediate release

The organising committee of the Waipara Valley Wine and Food Celebration is delighted to announce that the 2009 event will move to the fourth (4th) Sunday of February, this coming year, the 22nd of February at the historic Glenmark Church.

The Latitude Group, which is creating the $100 million Waipara Wine Village & Day Spa, is for the third year, the naming rights sponsor of the Wine and Food Celebration.

Previously the event was run in late March which was very close if not into the harvest. This new date gives the ability for wineries and producers to focus on the event before starting to harvest.

The Wine and Food Celebration is an annual event to offer thanks to God for the Harvest and to raise funds for the parish of Glenmark-Waikari. The Celebration has been held at the historic Glenmark Church for the past 15 years

Chairman of the organising committee, Richard Murchison says moving to February hopefully will ensure fine weather (God willing) and give visitors to the area a picture perfect image of the Waipara Valley. He also says that, “the Waipara Valley looks best in February and the month records the best and most consistent weather for the region. It’s also the busiest month for tourists in Canterbury and the organizing committee hopes to attract more of our overseas guests to the event”

Tickets for the Waipara Valley Wine and Food Celebration will be available much earlier this year (prior to Christmas) from Ticketek, Ballantynes, selected liquor outlets and the Waipara Valley Wineries. There are many bus companies running coaches to the event and a feature of the trip to the Waipara Valley is the train trip organized by Railtours.

Information on the Waipara Wine Village & Day Spa is available at www.waiparawineandspa.co.nz
