Northern ward’s turn for Mayoral Ward Clinic

NEWS RELEASE
23 October 2008

Northern ward’s turn for Mayoral Ward Clinic

Northern Ward residents are invited to meet with Mayor Kerry Prendergast and local ward councillors at a Mayoral Ward Clinic being held on Saturday 1 November.

The clinic is the final in a year-long pilot that was initiated following feedback from local MPs that many of the issues being raised in their electorate clinics were Council-related.

Mayor Prendergast says she wanted to give residents the opportunity to raise those issues with her and ward Councillors direct and is really happy with the way the pilot has progressed.

“We’ve had a good turn-out at all of the clinics and managed to address a range of individual and community concerns.”

She says following the final ward clinic, Council staff will evaluate the pilot overall and she is hopeful they will recommend to Council that they become a regular event in the Council calendar.

“I think the response to the clinics has shown that there is a real demand for this kind of interaction and that people want an opportunity to meet face-to-face to talk about their issues so I would like to see them continue for the rest of the triennium.”

The Northern Mayoral Ward Clinic will be held at the Tawa Community Centre Hall in Cambridge Street, Tawa, between 9.30am and 11.30am.

Mayor Prendergast says no appointment is necessary. “Any Northern Ward resident who wants to talk to either myself or Councillors Best and Ritchie (Cr Wain is unable to attend) about an issue in their community can come along.

“If we can provide the information they are seeking, or address their issue for them at the time, we will do so. If not, we will bring the issue back to the Council and make sure they receive a response as soon as possible.”
