Raglan Residents set to Soar

Raglan Residents set to Soar

Residents and visitors to Raglan will be able to try gliding from Raglan airfield this summer, from Saturday 10th of January through to Sunday 18th of January.

Piako Gliding Club will offer trial glider flights to the public, with costs starting at $60 for a 5-10 minute flight over the harbour. Longer flights are available: 15 to 20 minutes for $100 or 20-30 minutes for $150. No bookings are needed, visitors will be able to turn up anytime.

Raglan airfield is located next to the Raglan Holiday Park and is accessible by Marine Parade, or the Raglan foot bridge.

Passengers fly in a 2 seat aircraft with an experienced and qualified instructor. As well as views over Raglan town, harbour and beach, passengers receive a brief lesson and can optionally have a go on the controls.

"We're really looking forward to flying from Raglan, the views are spectacular. Quite a change from the farmland of the central Waikato." says Dominic Stevens, president of the Piako Gliding Club."

The club aims to introduce the Raglan public and visitors to the sport of gliding, and to attract new members to the club. "We operate as a volunteer based, not-for-profit organisation. Our aim to make gliding as easy and affordable as possible for anybody that wants to fly." says Dominic. "Hopefully our flying at Raglan will introduce someone to a new lifelong passion".
