Serious
questions need to be asked of the police actions which
resulted in an innocent member of the public being shot by
police on the NW motorway:
a) why did police
choose to run the offender off the road on a busy motorway
when they knew he was armed and the probability of gridlock
would halt the Auckland motorway system
b) why did police allow the armed man to escape from Glen Eden when armed police had an opportunity to disable him
c) did the police marksman mistake the deceased for the offender as they were both dark skinned young men
It would seem the police were badly lead and
lacked co-ordination and need to have clearer rules of
engagement. A public inquiry is in
order.
