Warm Up Kaikoura

Media Release: 16 March 2009
Warm Up Kaikoura

Call for residential landlords to take part in the Warm Up Kaikoura programme

Kaikoura’s residential landlords are being encouraged to take part in the Warm Up Kaikoura programme being run by MainPower and ENERGYWISE™.

“This is a great opportunity for landlords to improve the value of their properties by having full insulation installed, for a modest $500 cost to them,” says Julie Battersby, MainPower’s Community Relations Manager.

"We’ve had a good response so far but still have funding for a number of homes, provided they meet the criteria of the scheme.”

MainPower and ENERGYWISE™ fund the rest of the costs of installing under-floor and ceiling insulation, draught-stoppers and cylinder wraps on qualifying properties, above the $500 fee paid by landlords.

The Warm-up Kaikoura programme, which has a total value close to $1 million, was approved under the ENERGYWISE™programme following a good response to a postal survey of Kaikoura residents late last year.

“In addition to adding value to their properties, by taking part in the programme landlords will ensure their tenants have warmer, healthier and more comfortable homes, particularly over the cold winter months,” says Julie Battersby.

For a property to qualify for the programme, the tenants need to be eligible for a community services card, a supergold card, or the Working for Families scheme.

Warm up Kaikoura installations commenced in late January and are scheduled to be completed by 30 June this year.

Note: Some homes may not be able to be fully insulated because of limited access into the ceiling and under-floor areas, and some homes may already be insulated.
