New Churton Park School Welcomed

“Fantastic news”.  That was the reaction today from the Churton Park Community Association to news that the Minister of Education has confirmed a new school for the fast-growing suburb.

“We are delighted that the Minister of Education has confirmed the establishment of the new school in our community” said Association Spokesperson and long time education campaigner, Roger Ellis.

“For several years now the local school has been under pressure with rising roll growth and limited land area for new classrooms.

This announcement means that parents throughout the community can be assured of access to good quality local schooling in the future” said Mr Ellis.

“We look forward to supporting the Board of Trustees as they seek to implement a smooth transition over the next couple of years” said Mr Ellis.

Churton Park now has a population of over 5,000 and is one of the fastest growing suburbs of Wellington City. The new school should be open for the 2011 school year.

The existing school will be kept open thereby providing greater choice to local residents.
