Kids Bike Day Back in April

Kids Bike Day Back in April

27 March 2009

The ever popular Kids Bike Day is set to make a welcome return to Onepoto Domain on April 16.

The day kicks off with sign-in at 9am and concludes at 1.30pm after lunch and a prize draw which will see one lucky child ride away on a new bike courtesy of Avanti Cycles in Albany.

Former television presenter Jo Holley will be back as our guest MC and will be out and there dishing out plenty of encouragement and even more spot prizes.

Kids Bike Day is a free council-run event that aims to teach children aged between seven and 12 years valuable bike handling and road safety skills.

Children will also be taught basic bike maintenance, such as how to check brakes and tyres, and how to fit their helmet correctly.

This event is part of council’s programme to promote safe, active and sustainable travel across our city.

Kids love bikes and riding is a fun way to keep them fit and active says sustainable transport co-ordinater Debbie Lang.

“Whenever we ask children how they like to get to school, a large percentage always say by bike” says Ms Lang.

“It comes as no surprise how popular this event has become and we are glad to be able to provide such an event for our city’s youngest and newest riders.”

Spaces for this event are limited so register early by visiting: www.northshorecity.govt.nz. Registrations will be accepted starting April 1.

In the advent of bad weather, or for further information, please call Actionline on 486 8600.
