The recession has failed to dampen this year's South Island Agricultural
Field Days.

By 2pm today 23,860 people had attended the three-day event at Lincoln
to view a record 330 exhibits on display. The numbers are well up on the
2007 event when just under 20,000 people attended.

David James, the chairman of the South Island Agricultural Field Days,
says the response from South Island farmers to the event is heartening.
"This year's Field Days shows confidence in rural South Island is still
high despite the recession.

David James wants to thank everyone involved in organising and running
the event as well as those who attended.

During the event the Agri Innovation and site awards were made, the
results of which are below.

Next year the South Island Agricultural Field Days will be held in
Waimumu in Southland. Field Days will return to Lincoln in 2011 to
celebrate its 60th Anniversary.
