Small Pickings at the Food Bank
Small Pickings at the Food Bank
6 May 2009
Show your support for people in need with a donation to Downtown Community Ministry’s winter food appeal next Saturday (16th).
DCM Outreach worker David Manuel says, “The shelves are getting empty and there’s not much in reserve to replenish them. So we’re hoping the appeal goes well and it provides enough food to last us through winter.
He says, “With the stock being so low it’s getting impossible to give out decent food parcels. It’s really important to build up supplies again”.
Items most needed are milk powder, tinned fish and vegetables, packet meals and noodles.
“Our service users rely on us for food every week and we don’t want people going away empty handed.”
Downtown Community Ministry volunteers will be at Wellington City New World, Newtown New World and Willis St New World from 9am till late afternoon to collect food and donations.
Donations are also accepted online at www.dcm.org.nz or in person at the DCM offices in Lukes Lane.
The call for support is the first of two appeals held each year to boost DCM’s food bank supplies and is part of the Wellington Coalition of Food Banks Winter Food Appeal supported by NewstalkZB.
