Grandstand to start in two weeks
Construction of a 2500 seat grandstand to go alongside the athletics track at the regional Sports Park can commence in two weeks following a decision in the High Court in Napier today.
A Land Protection Society had asked for a judicial review of the consent process for the track and grandstand at the Park. Justice Miller dismissed the claim.
Sports Park Chief Executive Jock Mackintosh said it was now full steam ahead for the grandstand.
The overwhelming public response to the review has been, ‘we’ve had the vote [the Nelson Park referendum], let’s just get on with it’. Well, now we can.”
“However it’s extremely frustrating that the ratepayers have been put to considerable expense in the process.” This money would have been put to much better use building the Park,” he says.
