Buses take over this weekend on the Western and Southern line as Auckland’s rail upgrade continues
As works continue on the upgrade of Auckland’s rail network, buses will replace trains this weekend on the Western line and a section of the Southern line.
Bus replacements will be in place on the Southern line, between Otahuhu and Britomart (via Newmarket South and Ellerslie) on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August. On the Western line buses will replace trains between Waitakere and Britomart on Saturday 1st of August, and between New Lynn and Britomart on Sunday 2nd of August.
ARTA General Manager, Customer Services, Mark Lambert says “Considerable progress on the upgrade to Auckland’s rail network is being made. At New Lynn the significant trench work continues and progress on Newmarket Station is evident with the outer structure now predominantly in place.”
The work that takes place this weekend can only be carried out when there are no trains running. Where rail buses replace trains, normal train fares will apply for entire journey and tickets can be purchased on board. Passengers should look for RAIL BUS signs at affected stations.
“We thank customers for their continued patience. As Auckland’s rail infrastructure develops, we will continue to deliver improved rail services for Auckland.” Mr Lambert said.
