BARR take on Taupo Rally

BARR take on Taupo Rally

The By’Gone Autos Race and Rally Team are keeping their eye in over winter with a bit of rallying, this time the Taupo Classic 2wd Rally.

After Mal Clark and Rod Peat competed in the Taranaki Tarmac Rally and Targa Rotorua in the Rover P6, Mark Parsons and Tim Trout will share the drive in the event that is run purely at the Taupo race track.

The pair will run the Classic Cover Insurance BMW E30 320i that Clark used to win the inaugural BMW E30 series. The car has been modified for rallying with the fitting of the 2.7 litre engine, low ratio limited slip differential and suspension sourced from the English BMW 2wd championship.

As well as keeping their hand in during the circuit racing off-season, it is also a chance to introduce Trout to the rallying world after a season in the BMW E30 series over summer. “It is a great chance to introduce Timmy to the world of rallying and pass on some of the experience that Mal and I have.” Says Parsons.

The car is, in Parsons words, “Not a world beater.” But the team are looking forward to competing and having some fun. “It will also be good to support classic and two-wheel drive rallying in New Zealand.” He continues.

The opportunity to compete has come about thanks to the support of the teams sponsors, Classic Cover Insurance, Norbar Torque tools, By’Gone Autos who prepare the car and Moselle panel and paint.

The Taupo Classic and Two-wheel drive rally will start at 11 am on Saturday 8 August and will complete four stages that total 80 kilometres around the Taupo race track before finishing at 4.20 pm.
