Wander through Wellington for a tour of WOW

Wander through Wellington for a 20-year tour of WOW

The city’s gearing up for an another season of Montana World of WearableArt™ Awards Show and to get everyone into the swing of things, Wellington City Council and WOW® have brought back the Montana WearableArt™ Wander for its second year.

This is your chance to see all Supreme WOW® Award winners from the past 20 years – which are now adding an extra splash of colour to the central city. And there’s an extra aspect to this year’s Wander – a theatrical performer from the Montana WOW® Awards Show will be giving guided tours of the garments over the next couple of weeks.

The Council’s Recreation and Events Portfolio Leader, Councillor John Morrison, says he’s keen to have a wander around the central city with the show’s ringmaster.

“I’ve been to the show before where I was doubled-over laughing at the pre show performers’ antics,” says John. “I’m sure the ringmaster will make for a very entertaining guide.

“You should definitely head along to Te Papa if you can’t make it on one of the tours – they have the first ever and most recent Supreme Winners on display in the shop area. It would be a great chance to get up close to last year’s winner – a leathery masterpiece by Wellingtonian Nadine Jaggi.”

Staff from the Nelson-based WOW® and Classic Cars Museum will also guide people through the tours. Tours start tomorrow, and run every day until Sunday 4 October (weather dependent). Times vary – for exact details, go to www.worldofwearableart.com and click on ‘Montana WearableArt™ Wander’ or go to the Council website.

Now in its fifth year in Wellington, the Montana World of WearableArt™ Awards Show brings to life more than 160 garments in a theatrical extravaganza of music, drama, choreography, lighting and comedy. The shows start on Thursday 24 September and run until Sunday 4 October.
