14 October 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen,
START (BUILDING) YOUR TROLLEYS!

Papakura families, service clubs, race fans are being challenged to enter the 2009 Papakura Blue Light Trolley Derby.

Organisers are issuing a heads-up to regular derby-racers and a challenge to families and businesses and “everyone who has always thought the day looked like huge fun but hasn’t yet raced”.

The derby happens on Sunday 15 November 2009 and is a firm family favourite. It is the only annual opportunity for local children to race down Elliott Street in Papakura, with the street closed between the intersection of Elliott and Wood Streets all the way to the badminton courts.

Registration for all race classes is on the day, and all entrants are guaranteed three runs on the course. Entry is $10 per competitor, and the event is a fundraiser for the Blue Light organisation, which runs regular children’s events in the Papakura district.

Entry forms are available from Papakura District Council, Sir Edmund Hillary Library and Papakura Police Station; forms are also being distributed to the District’s schools. More information is available from Willie Iosia on 295 2358 or email wiosia@papakura.govt.nz

The day begins with registration from 7.30 am to 8.30 am, a competitor briefing between 8.30 and 9.00 am and first races starting immediately after that time. The day concludes with prizegiving at 3.00 pm.

There are prizes for all age groups from six years to adult and a separate challenge for businesses and organisations.

Papakura District Council will once more enter the business category, and is issuing a challenge to the business community to test their trolley-building skills against the current category winners.

The 2009 Papakura Blue Light Trolley Derby is supported by Mitre 10 Mega Takanini, Papakura District Council, Traffic Control Systems and Papakura Blue Light.
