Seeking Views On Pukekiwiriki Reserve Management

Seeking Views On Pukekiwiriki Reserve Management

A draft management plan for Papakura District’s iconic Pukekiwiriki Reserve has been released for public comment by Papakura District Council and will be the subject of an information day at Redhill Community Centre.

The plan recognises the site’s cultural, archaeological and geological significance to the region and to Iwi Māori of Papakura District. It has been prepared with the guidance of the Kaitiaki group that advises the Council on matters affecting Mana Whenua in the District.

Central to the plan is a partnership with Mana Whenua which recognises the customary authority of an iwi or hapú over what happens to a site such as Pukekiwiriki.

The Council is seeking the views of Papakura people on the management plan and has set a submissions period for the plan that ends on Friday 19 February 2010.

An open day will be held at Redhill Community Centre in Dominion Road on Saturday 23 January 2010 between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm to give people more information about the draft plan. Guided tours of the site will be provided by kaitiaki between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm.

Copies of the draft management plan are available from Papakura District Council, 35 Coles Crescent, Papakura; at the Sir Edmund Hillary Library, level four, Accent Point, Papakura; and at the Council’s web site, www.papakura.govt.nz
