Christchurch Casino Confirms 12th Annual New Zealand Poker Championships
Christchurch Casino has confirmed 2010 tournament dates for its flagship poker tournament, the Christchurch Casino New Zealand Poker Championships (NZPC).
The 12th annual event is locked in for 9-18 April 2010 during which period nine tournaments will be held with a prize pool of up to $741,000 to be posted from full events.
Christchurch Casino’s Chief Executive Officer, Brett Anderson, says the buzz is already building of the tournament known for superb hosting.
“Our New Zealand Poker Championships are renowned throughout the world for atmosphere and character – international poker stars love coming to Christchurch Casino - they say it’s like coming home for them where they can relax in familiar surroundings and be treated like an individual”, says Anderson.
Included in the nine individual tournaments are the coveted Main Event - attracting household poker names from around the world to compete every year, the South Island Championships and the Canterbury Championships. The eagerly anticipated Charity and Media Event which gave away $10,000 last year, will again give a boost to Canterbury charities.
Brett Anderson says of the Charity and Media Event:
“It’s one popular tournament! We have media and personalities getting in touch with us to see when the invites are due out as they don’t want to miss a seat. It’s a great night with an even greater cause – everyone enjoys themselves and, as you can see, they are keen to come back.”
Christchurch Casino has added two new events to the NZPC line up; the Minh Tran Memorial Trophy, a Two Card Manila game of poker, and the country’s first ever New Zealand Women’s Championship Trophy.
Both events are expected to be sell-outs with the Women’s Championship already gaining huge momentum in New Zealand and across the ditch.
