Ōkere Gates and Ōhau Weir consent application

The Bay of Plenty Regional
Council yesterday notified the resource consent application
for the Ōkere Control Gates and Ōhau Channel Weir
structures at Lake Rotoiti and Lake Rotorua
respectively.
Submissions are open and will be received
until 5pm on Tuesday 12 October 2010. Any person may make a
submission on the application by sending a written
submission to the Bay of Plenty Regional Council. For more

The application includes a proposed change in
the operating levels of Lake Rotoiti. The applications are
for the following activities:
1. Place, use and maintain
two control structures being the Ōhau Channel Weir and
Ōkere Control Gates at the outlets of Lakes Rotorua and
Rotoiti respectively;
2. Dam the Ōhau Channel at the
outlet of Lake Rotorua;
3. Dam the outlet of Lake
Rotoiti;
4. Artificially control the water levels in
Lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti;
5. Discharge water from Lake
Rotoiti to the Kaituna River through the Ōkere Control
Gates; and
6. Discharge water from Lake Rotorua to Ōhau
Channel over the Ōhau Channel Weir.
