Samaritans Extend 0800 Coverage to Help Earthquake Victims
Samaritans of NZ has extended its 0800 number coverage to help those in need of a listening ear after the Canterbury earthquake. The number to call is 0800 726 666.
"We need to be there to help in this time of need,” says Bruce Wall, chairman of Samaritans of NZ.
Samaritans would like people to know that they are there to listen and help people talk through what’s troubling them after this devastating event.
“Don’t bottle it up. We are there to offer compassion and understanding, 24/7,” says Bruce. “So even if someone needs to call us during the night when other services may not be available we are there to offer support and encouragement."
As a non-religious charitable organisation, Samaritans provides a 24 hour, 7 day a week, confidential, non-judgemental listening service for anyone suffering the after effects of the Canterbury Earthquake and its after shocks.
Samaritans has 6 centres throughout New Zealand in Wellington, Hutt Valley, Horowhenua, Manawatu, Wanganui and Rotorua. Fully trained volunteers operate their “listening and caring” helpline.
Wellington Samaritans are currently seeking volunteers for their next training course starting in October. For more information call 04 473 9739 or visit www.samaritans.org.nz to download an information pack.
