‘Love and Affection’ theme for popular
Children’s Day
ROTORUA 19.10.10:
Preparations for Rotorua District Council’s (RDC)
popular annual Children & Family Fun Day at the Redwoods are
set to begin, with the council encouraging people interested
in playing a role in the celebrations to attend a planning
meeting for the 2011 event.
The meeting is being held on Thursday 28 October from 5pm at The Redwoods Visitor Centre on Long Mile Rd.
Next year’s Children’s & Family Fun Day theme is ‘Love and Affection’, with RDC’s Redwoods Forest & Visitor Centre Manager Julianne Wilkinson and Community Arts Officer Kiri Jarden promoting the event as an opportunity to support parents and caregivers in sharing activities with their children.
Ms Jarden says the National Children’s Day event has been successful in the past due to the tremendous support received from local organisations.
“While the council has coordinated the event since 2005, many community organisations, clubs, businesses and volunteers have come on board to ensure the day is full of fabulous free activities for children, young people and their whanau.
“At next year’s fun day we’re committed to providing a designated area with activities suitable for children aged between 9 to 15 years, as well as a whole heap of fun for younger kids. And of course, the popular Great Rotorua Trolley Race will feature again.”
To register for the planning meeting on 28 October contact The Redwoods Visitor Centre on 350 0110 or email redwoods@rdc.govt.nz
