Motorist has lucky escape when car rolls

The Wellington Based Westpac Rescue Helicopter has transported an 18 year Dunedin old woman to hospital this afternoon after she rolled her car on SH1 near Kekerengu, Marlborough.

The Helicopter with a Wellington Free Ambulance Paramedic on board responded to the crash at approximately 12.25pm this afternoon.

On our arrival local Fire and Police staff were already attending to the young woman, who was the sole occupant of the car. Witnesses stated that the car had rolled 2-3 times, landing on it's wheels about 50m off the road in an area of sandy soil.

"Although the car suffered considerable damage the woman driver appears to have suffered only bruising from her seat belt and a sore ear" said helicopter crewman Colin Larsen.

The woman was transported by Helicopter to Wairau Hospital Emergency Department where she is being further assessed and treated for her injuries.
