BSL Racing run mid-pack on night two

BSL Racing’s A-grade midget drivers Shayne Alach and Scott Buckley have recorded mid-field finishes at night two of the Western Springs speedway season, although F2 midget driver Trewen Joine continued his feature-race domination.

For Alach, it was a frustrating night as the team continues to work out the Spike chassis/Esslinger 161 engine combination, but in the opening heat he moved from sixth to fourth. Buckley had a stronger start, moving up from fifth to second in his heat.

Both drivers ran together in their second heat, starting side by side off grids seven (Alach) and eight (Buckley) and after 10 laps, Alach had moved up to fifth while Buckley jumped into seventh on an increasingly slick track.

In the F2 midget races, Joine had won his first heat and finished second in his second heat, the first time he had not won a heat all season. Those results meant he started the eight-lap feature off pole position and took a comfortable flag to flag win, his second in the two meetings to date at the springs.

With both cars starting the 25-lap feature race from the middle of the grid, Alach made early gains and was in a battle involving four cars from fifth-eighth however as the race wore on, the track moved away from Alach and by the end of the race he had fallen back to tenth place.

Buckley had dropped back after again starting next to Alach in tenth place and initially moved back a couple of places. However as the race wore on, Buckley moved forward and when the chequered flag dropped, Buckley had jumped in front of Alach and into ninth place.

Alach and Buckley now face a week off before the next meeting at Western Springs on November 27, the final chance to work on set-ups before the International series gets underway on Boxing night.

As well as individual car Sponsors Parker Store/Lucas Oils (Alach) and Iscar (Buckley), the BSL Racing Midget team are supported by Fletcher Easysteel, Volvo Penta, Precision Components, Sanvik Coromant and Mico Metals.
