Farmside Offer Tech Solutions for Civil Defence

Farmside Offer Technology Solutions for National Civil Defence Response

Farmside, New Zealand’s leading satellite telecommunications provider, hope to provide a modern technological solution to Civil Defence and Emergency Management staff that will allow better national connectivity and a faster, more coordinated and efficient disaster response.

Farmside’s technical staff took part in the South Island Civil Defence Emergency Management Conference held in Dunedin last week, providing equipment demonstrations and taking part in discussion panels.

The focus of the Civil Defence and Emergency Management conference was looking at the operational aspects of dealing with emergency management, particularly how Emergency Operations Centers are run during emergency response.

Later this year a web-based national emergency management information system is likely to be implemented. The system will link all emergency response partners including local authorities, Defence and emergency services. To operate effectively the system will need back up data communication capabilities – the technological solution Farmside can offer with their mobile satellite high-speed broadband and phone connections.

The New Zealand Army and the New Zealand Fire Service made use of Farmside’s mobile satellite high-speed broadband and phone connections during the response to the Canterbury Quake earlier this year.
