City Assist ambassadors sought for summer
ROTORUA 18.11.10: City Assist ambassadors will be back on the streets this summer and Rotorua District Council (RDC) is currently on the lookout for three people to help visitors and add to safety in the CBD.
The brightly uniformed City Assist trio will patrol the city centre and surrounding reserves over the next few months, acting as walking information centres and as the community’s ‘eyes and ears.’
City Assist is coordinated by Rotorua District Council and funded by the Ministry of Justice.
RDC community safety projects officer Amy Royston says it is the fourth year the council has run the successful project, and she is looking to employ three exceptional people for an immediate start to duties.
“The City Assist programme involves staff on foot and on bikes roving throughout the CBD helping locals and visitors with information such as directions to public transport, where to find public toilets, what visitor attractions are available and various retail hours.
“The initiative is also aimed at increasing Rotorua residents’ feeling of safety, and helping reduce crime in the CBD and nearby reserves.
“Last season’s City Assist staff were recognised by Rotorua Police for the roles they played in reporting two separate incidents that lead to the arrests of two men.”
Circuits will be undertaken by City Assist team members within the CBD and Central Mall, Kuirau Park, Lakefront and Government Gardens.
The City Assist ambassador programme will continue through until 1 April 2011.
Information on how to apply for one of the City Assist team member positions is on the council website rdc.govt.nz [key words: job vacancies]
