Tutanekai St to get new ‘pay and display’ machines
ROTORUA 22.11.10: New ‘pay and display’ parking units are being installed in the CBD and will begin operating next week.
Rotorua District Council is currently replacing the old single-bay parking metres with ‘pay and display’ machines along part of Tutanekai St, from Hinemoa St around City Focus up to Haupapa St where the Night Market takes place.
During times when motorists need to pay for using parking spaces in this zone people will need to buy a ticket from the nearest ‘pay and display’ machine and place it on their dashboard in a clearly visible and readable location.
RDC City Services manager Dennis Olliver, says the cost for parking in this area is not changing, just the method for paying.
He said progressively replacing old single bay meters in busy city streets with modern technology ‘pay and display’ units was part of the council’s current Ten Year Plan
“The ‘pay and display’ machines will help minimise street clutter in high pedestrian areas. They’re also easier to manage, with four ‘pay and display’ parking units able to cover 45 to 50 parking spaces.”
Charges in the ‘pay and display’ area remain unchanged at $1 per hour for up to four hours.
